Sort of getting the landscape itch

I'm starting to get an irresistible urge to do a monochrome landscape picture. I'd like to do one about 11 X 14 inches of either some mangrove islands or a forested area. I love monochrome pictures because they focus more on forms, composition, contrasting values, and the contour of the land, rather than relying on color for expression. Much like a black and white photo, in other words.

A couple years ago I made one that, for some reason, I never photographed after finishing it. In this photo, it was about 80% done. Now it's in a frame, and I'm too lazy to take it out to do a photo. It's impossible to get a good photo through the glass in the frame.
The foreground was unfinished when i took this photo. I love the sky in this and the way the distant horizon sets against it.

Here's a picture I've posted before. This one is more or less monochrome, although it's actually a mix of bloodstone, sepia and gray. It's a small picture, 3 1/2 X 5 1/2 inches. It was selected for a national juried exhibition of small works.

I have several other small landscapes that are gray and white, but for some reason I can't find photos of them. If I find them, I'll add them to this post.
