The night song

I mentioned in the previous post that there are pictures I refer to as "night song" pictures. Here are two of them. I'm posting them just so you can see that they're kind of unrelated. "Night song" is more or less a generic term I use to refer to certain kinds of pictures. (When I get around to it, I'll post some pictures of the "given to fly" variety. They're not related to the night song stuff; they're just pictures that I call "given to fly" pictures. All of this is merely mental footnotes so I can categorize stuff in my head.)
This is one of the few pictures that make me smile every time I look at it. It's got such a great nature. Just a really happy picture in many ways. (This is about 4 X 6 inches, on hot press paper.)

These pictures are actually darker than shown here. The blog site is once again messing with the photos. I probably should adjust them and make them really dark, just to compensate. This picture is 5 1/2 X 6 1/2 inches. Some of the grays in this one are really wonderful. The Davy's gray and Payne's gray are so nice.... I'm guessing the Payne's gray was Dick Blick watercolor, which has a unique sort of green undertone, which is also a characteristic of both Holbein and W&N Davy's gray. Here's a weird thing about this picture, compared to the one above: Even though this picture gives me a good feeling, there are times when I kind of choke up when I look at it. It sort of catches me if I'm not prepared. Trust me, it was not my intention to make this picture one that has emotional content, but for some reason it hits me that way when I least expect it. If nothing else, it's yet another example of why I paint these things for me, because I can't imagine anyone looking at this picture and having a gut response to it.
